RESCUE
We have a rescue dog that we adopted 5 years ago. Read his story here. Casey (our rescue), has changed our lives in so many wonderful ways. When we saw the changes in him, and what being part of rescue can do...we were hooked! You would be amazed at what love and a home can do for a dog who grew up in a puppy mill. I've heard many people say they are afraid to take on a dog that they know nothing about. If this is you, then be a foster parent. All rescue groups are looking for good foster homes for their rescues to live for a few weeks after they have been rescued. This gives the dog the chance to adjust to a new home and to be evaluated for what would be the best home for him/her. Older dogs rarely go to homes with young children. Once a "forever home" is found, the rescue goes to that home. Foster parents usually have rescues for a minimum of 2-4 weeks, but it could be for a couple of months. Each case is different. I know we will never regret taking on Casey, and he just loves all the attention and good meals now. We are proud to say we are Rescue Parents!!
REUSE
Reuse items whenever possible to help eliminate unnecessary waste. Here are some examples of reuse:
- Reuse tote bags for all your shopping.
- Give items not being used to charity or sell it. Donate your books, magazines, etc to your local library, hospital, etc.
- Use both sides of your copy paper when you print out your work.
- Reuse cardboard boxes for shipping, moving, storing, etc
- Reuse newspaper, peanuts/bubble wrap (that you get in your packages) and shred paper for packing material.
- Exchange clothes/decorations/kitchen items with a friend and you will both have new items for your home.
- Instead of buying new furniture, have your old recovered.
- Take along your own cups/travel mugs when you travel instead of disposables.
- When you do use disposables (plates, cups, utensils), reuse them by washing them for later use.
- When you do need to purchase something, check yard sales and second hand stores first instead of buying new.
- Use washable table napkins instead of paper napkins.
Help to stop filling our landfills by recycling. Here some items you can recycle:
- Plastic containers
- Glass
- Paper - magazines, newspapers, copy paper
- Metal - cans, copper, aluminum, brass
- Cardboard
- Wood
- Old beat up boxes
- Old prescription glasses
- Tires
Globally we are using resources at a faster rate than the planet can replenish them, causing problems such as disappearing forests, declining fisheries and climate change.
You can help to replenish by using rain water to water your flowers/plants. Set out a bucket to collect the water when it rains.
Use tree free products like: paper, paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, tissues, etc.
Replenish by planting a tree. You can go to this site to buy a tree in a box. Buy several as gifts and help protect our trees.
